Skin Conditions

Our skin is the largest and heaviest organ in our body an makes up about a seventh of our body weight. Given the size of our skin it should indicate how important its role is in our body and metabolism.

Our skin has multiple functions acting as a barrier against moisture, the suns rays, germs, bacteria, other toxic substances, regulating body temperature, acts as a store room for fat, water and metabolic products and produces hormones.

Looking a peoples skin can also tell you a lot about what is happening internally. For example skin colour can indicate possible blood cell or liver dysfunction. When we actually assess the role of skin we begin to realise how and why the skin can be susceptible to so many different conditions.

If you suffer from skin irritations or a skin condition then you know how annoying this can be. Common over the counter treatments quite often end up working short term or even irritating more and prescription medication can have the same effect or lead to side effects of the medications! Skin conditions can be caused by multiple issues. From an autoimmune reaction, poor gut health, allergy immune reaction and even stress. When assessing a skin condition a naturopath will try and identify what is the trigger for your particular manifestation as not all triggers will be the same.

Common skin complaints that would benefit from natural health care:

  • Psoriasis

  • Eczema/dermatitis

  • Acne

  • Unexplained rash or itching

  • Rosacea

  • Vitiligo

  • Cold sores

  • Hives

  • Impetigo
